January 31, 2008

As I write this, the wind is howling outside my office and for the first time in a long time, we have a 70% chance of rain/snow this afternoon. All eyes will be peeled until then as we are in extreme fire danger. The past two days have seen major fires in Jefferson County. Hopefully this afternoon we will get some precipitation to help this situation out. After a great summer in which we saw much needed rain, the tap was suddenly turned off this fall. Now, pastures of tall native grass prairie bolstered by the summer rains, provide ample fuel for wildfires.

The past few days have been spent in my office placing ads for our spring production sale. Last year we had a "special" sale in February, but in 2008 we will return to our regular sale date on the third Saturday in April. We will be selling approximately 90 bulls and 70 females. For information, click on our "for sale" page which will be continually updated thru sale time. To be placed on our mailing list or to receive a catalog, please contact Parker Ranch at 580-228-3251.

segments for The Cattle Show
on RFD-TV to be aired March 11, 2008

As in our last sale, our bull offering will carry a complete Igenity profile. We will have this information listed on our website in a sortable spreadsheet format on the for sale page and available in our catalog. If you have questions about Igenity and will be attending the 2008 Cattle Industry Annual Convention and NCBA Trade Show, stop and visit with the Igenity people at Merial Booth 701. Also, on March 11th on RFD-TV’s THE CATTLE SHOW, Dr. Jim Gibb, Beef Seedstock Sales Director with IGENITY, will host a segment to expand your understanding of DNA technology and how you can use this technology to advance your operation. Locations for shooting and persons interviewed are Parker Ranch, Eddie Parker; Leddy Lewis, Snyder, TX and Dan Dorn, Decatur City Feed Yard in Oberlin, KS.

The show will air at 8 p.m. CDT March 11; 10 a.m. CDT March 12 and 10 p.m. March 16th.

As an ongoing service to our customers, on your females, Parker Ranch will pay 20% of your Igenity profiling cost for up to 25 females per each bull you purchase. If you have any questions, contact Eddie.

That’s it for now. Remember to check our for sale page between now and our sale date of April 19, 2008 for updates concerning our sale.
